Responding to the Government’s open consultation, ‘Operational reforms to the Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project consenting process’, Muniya Barua, Deputy Chief Executive at BusinessLDN said:
“We welcome these measures aimed at speeding up the approval and delivery process for Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects. This will help attract greater volumes of investment, particularly in energy and water infrastructure, which is essential to meet the needs of a growing population and build greater resilience against climate change.
“We know that projects are also often at risk of delays caused by local opposition mid delivery. So it’s positive news that these reforms also stress the importance of local community involvement in the infrastructure consenting process. However, we need greater clarity on how new processes will better enable the private and public sectors to work together to meet net zero targets.”
