London is facing a serious skills gap as changes in technology and ways of working transform what people and businesses need to succeed.
That’s a key reason why City Lit offers courses to more than 60,000 Londoners each year, which makes us the largest provider of adult education in the UK.
We recognise the demand for non-vocational education in an adult-oriented setting, as a vital part of addressing the skills gap.
Spanning every London borough, our student body ranges from ages 19 to 90 learning both online and in traditional classrooms.
There is a driving need in London for digital skills. Nestled in the heart of Covent Garden on Keeley Street, our flagship building houses state-of-the-art facilities, including the Digital and Design Lab, designed to offer a premium digital learning experience and equipping students with skills essential for success in the evolving tech industry.
Our course offering is always evolving. City Lit currently has over 5,000 short courses available, reflecting our responsiveness to market needs and our commitment to supporting London’s diverse population.
Our course areas include performing and visual arts, languages, humanities, and social sciences. We also have a selection of specialised courses in British sign language, lipreading, speech therapy, and support for learning difficulties.
These courses utilise the talents of our diverse and inclusive capital which are one of London’s great strengths and help people of all backgrounds to work, live and play here.
Offering a range of holistic courses recognises the width of roles the economy needs to prosper and grow. Our Wellbeing Centre located on Kean Street, for example, provides a serene and well-equipped environment for Wellbeing and Counselling courses. This is an ideal setting for professional training in counselling, massage therapy, and other complementary therapies.
In response to the pandemic, we swiftly transitioned many of our courses to online platforms, which expanded our reach beyond London. This initiative helped individuals to secure employment, advance careers, and bridge skills gaps prevalent in the job market.
The strength of our offer was confirmed by outstanding results in our recent Ofsted inspection, when it labelled us ‘an exceptional institution’.
Equally important is student feedback and an impressive 93% of our learners scored their course a stellar 4 out of 5‑star rating.
What we provide is accessible learning for all, in a welcoming environment, that acts as a catalyst for personal growth, and challenge people to unlock their potential. This creates a vibrant community of learners who take this journey together.
Ofsted highlighted the exceptional quality of education across all areas, including adult learning programs, personal development, and leadership.
Working together with BusinessLDN, our knowledge and experience will play a role in delivering the Local Skills Improvement Plan (LSIP) for London.
