Here at Excel London, we’ve always believed that great events start with great people.
As London’s largest events venue, we welcome millions of visitors every year and host some of the city’s largest, most influential exhibitions, conferences, and consumer shows – from Formula E to the more recent World Travel Market.
But we’re also a major local employer, passionate about supporting the people who help make Excel the venue it is. And it’s not just our 300 permanent Excel staff either, but the many hundreds of contractors, partners and third-party suppliers that rely heavily on Excel and London’s events industry – which in turn contributes significantly to the Royal Docks and London’s wider business economy.
That’s why for more than three years now we have been a London Living Wage Employer, standing proudly alongside our neighbours across London’s Royal Docks to ensure people receive fair pay.
Working in collaboration with the Living Wage Foundation, we’re working to make the Royal Docks a ‘Living Wage Place’ with the goal of ensuring fair pay becomes the norm, not the exception.
We’re proud to join forces with other major local employers, including London City Airport and Tate & Lyle Sugars, to help drive this change. Together, we’re helping to tackle the cost of living by ensuring that everyone in our community earns a real living wage – one that reflects the true cost of living in our great city.
But why does this matter? Excel’s commitment to the Living Wage isn’t just a policy – it’s a reflection of our values. It also helps us to attract and retain talented people, boost morale, and create a more inclusive workplace where everyone feels valued. It’s an investment in people, and that investment pays back many times over in loyalty, quality, and pride.
Many people also don’t realise that the Living Wage campaign actually began right here in East London more than 20 years ago – and it’s inspiring to see that same spirit of community action shaping the Royal Docks today.
By joining this movement, Excel is helping to build a fairer, stronger, and more sustainable local economy, where everyone benefits from growth and opportunity. It also forms a key part of Excel’s ESG programme, something we’re immensely proud of and includes supporting seven local charity partners – some of whom opened their doors 25 years ago, the same day we did.
Together, with our partners across the Royal Docks and beyond, we’re not just hosting world-class events – we’re helping to create a Living Wage community that London can be proud of.
