Introduction

London has unique challenges in addressing skills issues around labour market inclusion. The breadth of diversity in the capital is significant, as is its intersectionality, which means that a one-size-fits all approach will not work. How can we improve access to employment and opportunity for those furthest from the labour market, including younger workers, those with disabilities and people living in poverty? This session will explore:

  • The labour market inequality picture in London
  • Steps that policymakers are, can and should take
  • How the LSIP can and is helping
  • Best practice from employers on attracting a robust pipeline of diverse talent
Session Time
11:10 - 11:50
Introduction

One of the central aims of the LSIP is to drive greater collaboration between employers and training providers in order to better match training to business demand at local level. However, many employers, especially SMEs, struggle to find the time to engage with or even understand the skills system. This session will explore:

  • The challenges employers and educators face when trying to collaborate.
  • The impact of the LSIP in driving greater employer-provider collaboration.
  • How education providers and businesses can work even more closely together to design curriculum and training programs that align with industry needs.
