The final draft of the London Local Skills Improvement Plan (LSIP) has been submitted to the Department for Education for approval.
Over the last nine months, BusinessLDN and its partners have conducted extensive qualitative and quantitative research on employer skills needs and local system issues as part of ongoing work on the London Local Skills Improvement Plan (LSIP). Bringing together businesses, educators, local and central government, and charities through roundtables, webinars, and consultations, vital input has been gathered to develop a plan for getting more people into jobs, improving social mobility, and tackling barriers to participation.
Last week, BusinessLDN submitted the final draft of the report to the Department for Education (DfE) for approval ahead of the 31st May deadline. The report is a data-driven and employer-led blueprint for transforming the capital’s skills system, which sets out the changes that need to happen to transform London’s skills landscape. From creating a London Recruitment and Skills Support Hub for business, through to delivering more modular learning and introducing new funded qualifications in transferable skills, it sets out an ambitious roadmap.
NEXT STEPS
Approval is expected to be granted from the Secretary of State for Education by the end of July, after which all report documents will be added to BusinessLDN’s dedicated LSIP microsite.
A launch event is planned in September bringing key stakeholders together to discuss the key findings.
And from the autumn, BusinessLDM’s focus will turn to the next phase, Stage 2, of the LSIP, where there will be further engagement opportunities to get involved in delivering on the LSIP priorities.
Please get in touch with Policy Delivery Director, Mark Hilton, if you would like to hear more or to get involved with the LSIP.
