Our judges and the judging process is what sets the Building London Planning Awards apart from any other accolade within the built environment sector.
Judging took place through a rigorous two-step process to ensure that all entries are judged fairly and thoroughly.
Step 1 -April — May 2025: Finalists determined
Once entries closed, our judges independently reviewed all submitted applications and scoring each entry against the specific category criteria. Individual scores are then compiled, an average score for each entry taken and from there the finalists for each category are determined.
Finalists were announced in May 2025, and put forward to our second stage of judging.
Step 2 — June — July 2025: Winners determined
The second stage of judging involved either a site visit or a presentation depending on the category. In order to ensure each entry was judged fairly and with as much information as possible available, we arrange these directly with the finalist so that judges can hear more from them in person.
During the second stage of the judging process, the judges rescored each of the finalists against a new set of category-specific criteria that takes into account the judges’ ability to put clarifying questions to the entrant and assess the entrants’ responses. The winner for each category must be decided by unanimous vote.
Site visits
Site visits are an important part of our judging process and an element of the Building London Planning Awards that sets this accolade apart from any other. Our panel of judges visited all finalists from the listed categories in person. This massive logistical undertaking is pivotal to the prestige and integrity of the awards and gives finalists the unique opportunity to bring their projects to life, allowing the judges to experience the entry first hand and score what is directly in front of them.
Presentations
For the listed categories, a site visit was not necessary but having more in-depth detail regarding the entry and giving the judges the opportunity to ask questions directly of the finalists is a very important step, so we asked that finalists of these categories come to our offices to give an in-person presentation.
Judges’ discussion
The two final categories do not require a site visit or presentation, but were decided by judges’ deliberation.
General entry and judging T&Cs
It is the responsibility of the entrant to ensure they have obtained permission from all collaborators included in their submission to: A) enter the Awards on their behalf, and B) provide any associated information, supporting materials, images, or data included within the written entry form.
By submitting an entry, entrants confirm that they grant BusinessLDN permission to share the submitted information and materials with the judging panel for review.
BusinessLDN reserves the right to reassign entries to a different category if advised by the judging panel. Should this occur, the entrant will be notified prior to the finalists being announced.
Entrants acknowledge that the judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into regarding the outcome.
