Commenting on the QS Best Student Cities Ranking 2026, which sees London drop from top position to third behind Seoul and Tokyo, Mark Hilton, Policy Delivery Director at BusinessLDN, said:
“London’s appeal as a world-leading destination for students from the UK and overseas plays a huge part in creating a vibrant, dynamic and innovative city.
“The Government and Mayor are rightly focused on getting shovels in the ground quickly to tackle the capital’s housing crisis and this must include working with the private sector to increase the availability of good quality student accommodation.
“Ministers should also think again about introducing a new levy on international students in the autumn, which would hit our international competitiveness and undermine the sector’s finances at a time when they are already facing significant challenges.”
