On 7 May, Londoners will vote in their local elections with many predicting some significant changes in political leadership and party representation across the capital as a result. Shortly afterwards, on 11 May, two significant changes will take effect that will further change the landscape of local planning decisions, namely a requirement for local planning authorities to consult the Secretary of State before refusing applications for planning permission for developments of 150 or more homes, and to consult the Mayor of London before refusing applications for planning permission for developments for 50 or more homes in London.
